A caveman's secret spot for sundowners

A caveman's secret spot for sundowners (NSW)

A stunning vista and a beer in hand. What more do you need for the perfect sunset? Turns out a tidy little cave doesn’t go amiss. I’d heard from some locals that Flat Rock (Lincoln’s Rock) was a spectacular spot and a perfect place for sundowners, with views out over the impressive Jameson Valley and Kings Tableland and the blue hue that covers them giving the mountains their name. Naturally I wanted to give it a go so drove and parked up at the end of Little Switzerland Drive and walked from there. Unexpectedly I had the place to myself and I saw immediately why I had been told to come. A huge, flat, smooth rock led up to a cliff dropping away, where you could sit staring off the edge of the world as the sun went down directly ahead of you.

However after a while I wanted to see if I could get down below to the base of the cliff, as in some spots I could see quite an overhang, and wondered what was below. After whacking through the undergrowth, with many scratches to go with it, I emerged at the base of the cliff. Walking along it I noticed a hollow and scrambled up to what was the perfect hidden gem of the area. Front row seats to the sunset over the mountain from my own personal cave.

Fred Flintstone would be proud.
